The 18-year-old will be playing in the All Japan High School Soccer Tournament, representing Chukuodai Chuyko High School, and will join when the championships have concluded.

"I am delighted Ryo will be joining us in the New Year," Arsene Wenger told the club's website.

"He trialled with us in the summer and has raw ability which has attracted many clubs around the world.

"I look forward to helping him fulfill his potential here at Arsenal."

We have to do the dirty work when necessary - Samir Nasri

Samir Nasri believes that Arsenal have to sometimes sacrifice their flamboyant style of football and do the dirty work necessary to win a game, metaphorically saying that his team-mates "sometimes have to put the bullfighter's outfit in the cupboard".

The Gunners were only recently subject to a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United that saw them lose top spot in the Premier League to their opponents, who now have a two-point lead with a game in hand.

However, the Frenchman has thrown down the gauntlet in the race to the finish line, as he believes that the north London club can win the title despite losing at Old Trafford.

"It was a tactical battle against United, and we needed to do plenty of defending especially with Park and Rooney down the flanks," Nasri told reporters.

"We stood up to them well, but lost the game because of little details. In the first half we were unwilling to commit ourselves too much, but in the second half we were a lot more effective.

"We sometimes have to put the bullfighter's outfit in the cupboard. We have to get down to working hard for the good of the team.

"I do not see any problems with us not playing in flamboyant style, as long at the team wins.

"We proved that we are a good team, but it is futile to talk about it now.

"Let's discuss it again in May - and see who are the champions then."

We can show the world how powerful we are: Says Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called on his charges to show their might by beating Manchester United to stay at the top of the Premier League.

The two sides meet on Monday with the Gunners in pole position, ahead of their opponents by a single point - though United still have a game in hand.
The Frenchman has been discussing the maturity of his young side for a few years, and now believes that the time is ripe to showcase the strength they possess as a team.

"We have an opportunity to show how good we are - that is what you want in life," said Wenger to reporters.
"Let's go without any preconceived ideas, not [thinking] about any weakness of Manchester United, nor about any weakness from us, just let's focus on the day, to give your best, play with belief, play for each other and we have a good chance to beat anybody."
Wenger maintained: "I know that my team will be really up for it, and I always have great belief in my players - I know how hungry they are for success and am sure that will come out in the game."

Wenger and his Old Trafford counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson shared a frosty relationship in the past, but in recent years the pair have expressed a mutual admiration for each other.

"It's always for me in the heat of the moment," added Wenger, on the club's official website.
"I'm not somebody who bears grudges for years. I can forgive - indeed, sometimes I need to be the person to be forgiven - but I'm not somebody who thinks for 10 years, forever, 'I will hate you'.
"Relations with people go up and down a little bit. Why? Because many things happen in the heat of the moment and you know it's not for definite.

"I had [arguments] not only with him but with other managers."

Young star Theo Walcott has started only three games in the league this season, while making five substitute appearances in the process. But the former Monaco boss insists that his four goals so far do not make him an "impact substitute".

"Frankly I can understand that because for me Theo Walcott is doing well," Wenger said.

"For me he is not an impact player, he is a regular player.

"At the moment he does not play as often as he should but he will play soon.

"In fairness, Theo is fantastic. His attitude and behaviour has been absolutely great."

Arsene Wenger Unhappy about the lack of respect shown by Patrice Evra

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is unhappy with comments expressed by Manchester United defenderPatrice Evra.

Ahead of the Premier League clash between the two clubs on Monday night, Evra used an interview with French TV channel Canal+ to label Arsenal as a "training centre" and say that the Gunners' lack of silverware in recent years is "ridiculous".

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Arsene Wenger was keen to avoid a war of words with fellow Frenchman Evra. Instead, he stated that his team will not be intimidated by insults designed to pile the pressure on his side.

"He gave you some good stuff to make it all hot before the game," Wenger said.

"We are guided by the way we want to play football and not by the statements of anybody who plays against us.
"Personally, I believe if you are a big player you always respect your opponent and that is what we try to do."

Arsenal have the best away record in the Premier League this season and travel to Old Trafford to face a Manchester United side boasting the best home record.

Due to the fact that Manchester United's game at Blackpool was called off last week, Arsenal's 2-1 win over Fulham took the Gunners above United to the top of the Premier league.

And Wenger is adamant that his side have the maturity to ignore Evra's comments and to approach the game with belief in the way they play their football.

"We want to focus on the way we want to play and ignore any provocation before a game," he said.

"We are motivated by the desire to win the game and by the quality of the football we want to play."

Aaron Ramsey hopes to regain full fitness at Nottingham Forest

Aaron Ramsey is looking return to full fitness playing forNottingham Forest, before returning to Arsenal early next year.

The young Gunner had been at the receiving end of a strong challenge from Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross last season, which saw the 19-year-old spend nine months on the sidelines with a broken leg.

But having returned to some semblance of fitness, the Welshman has gone out on loan to build his fitness. And only recently he made a debut for Forest by making a substitute appearance against Leicester City.

"I’ve been out for a long time and just to be out there and playing again made me realise how much football means to me.," Ramsey said, according to The Mirror.

"I’ve missed a lot of the year, but it was so good to be back in the swing of things.

"Obviously the first two months after the injury were the hardest, I couldn’t really move much, although I was encouraged to try to get on my feet. My friends and family helped me get through it.

"I’m here to get back to 100 per cent and hopefully win as many games for Forest as possible. I want to try and get them going in the right direction.

"I felt alright and I’m still a way off playing 90 minutes, but my fitness is coming along nicely. I’ve been out for nine months and these are what these games are for."

Former Arsenal Star Robert Pires joins Aston Villa

Former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires has signed a six month contract to join Aston Villa until the end of the season.

The former French international becomes Gerard Houllier’s first signing since arriving at Villa Park.

The 37-year-old, who has been training with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal for the past two months,  will add valuable experience to a young squad.

The one-time left-wing star, now moved to the central ground, signed for Villa as a free agent after being released by Villarreal in the summer.

The world cup winner, who will wear the number eight shirt, will meet his new teammates tomorrow and hopes to make his debut for the club against Blackburn on Sunday.

Pires told AVTV: "I can't wait to play and put on that new shirt. It is very exciting.

"I am very happy to join Aston Villa because it's a big club in England.

"I am also thrilled to have the chance of working with Gerard Houllier. I know him.

“I spoke with Gerard Houllier and like me he is very happy because I need him and he needs me to play with experience because the team is young. We need a good mix.

"Now this move represents a new opportunity and a new challenge for me. I am very happy to start.

"I can't wait to put that

shirt on and play for Aston Villa. I am proud to play for Villa and to the fans, I'd like to say 'see you soon at Villa Park.”

Pires who spent six years with the Gunners and played 236 times for the North London club insisted playing in England was a big factor in signing for Houllier’s men.

He said: “For me it’s a good surprise but I’m very happy here because I like English football and  it was important for me to work here again.”

Assistant manager Gary McAllister is delighted the club have captured such a decorated player and believes believes the new recruit can have positive influence on the whole squad.

He said: "He is a proven winner. It gets thrown around a lot these days when people say they are a winner but he is a genuine article.

"He's a European champion and he has won the World Cup as well. He has vast experience and was a fantastic player in the Premier League for Arsenal.

"People thought he was coming to the end of his career but he went to Villareal and done well there for several seasons.

"For all the younger players - what a tremendous addition. The younger players can only learn from watching a guy like Robert on the training field.

"He will gain respect. But I am sure Robert Pires isn't coming here just to be a player that everyone is going to stand back and admire. He will want to gain the respect of the fact that he is still competitive and still able to do a job at this level."

Ashley Young to join Arsenal in january?

Ashley Young
Aston Villa winger Ashley Young is set to sign for Premier League title contenders Arsenal after refusing to sign a new contract at Villa Park, according to reports.

The England international is reportedly looking to make the switch to the Emirates in the January transfer window, as reported by talkSPORT.

The 25-year-old insisted he would confer with the Midlands club regarding a new deal at the end of the season as he currently has one year left on his current contract.

However, reports suggest Arsene Wenger will snap up Young despite Villa manager Gerard Houllier’s desire to keep him.

Cesc Fabregas Praises Defensive Performance In Arsenal’s 2-1 Win Over Everton

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has hailed his side's defensive display in the 2-1 win over Everton  at Goodison Park.

The skipper doubled the Gunners' lead after Bacary Sagna had opened the scoring. Tim Cahill sparked a late fightback with his goal one minute from time, but Arsene Wenger’s men held on to secure the victory.

Fabregas is pleased to have picked up the three points after the late scare from Everton and believes his side were solid defensively.

"It was a good performance," he told Sky Sports."Defensively we looked solid, our only regret is that last minute goal. We played very well, we were in control. We knew their game was long ball but we did well against it."

Fabregas was lucky to escape a red card after a tackle on Wolves' Stephen Ward in midweek, and there were calls for the skipper to be dismissed after a challenge with Sylvain Distin against Everton.

"Look at the replay. He kicks my ankle, he kicks me. Of course, last week I make a tackle and now everyone wants Cesc Fabregas sent off, I just play football and that’s it," the World Cup winner said.

The Arsenal captain also expressed his surprise at Sagna scoring just his second Arsenal goal, before admitting his side became nervous after Cahill’s late goal.

He said:  "[It was a] great goal! I was asking for the ball but I was not too confident in him! He did very well and I think defensively we were superb.

"The second goal was an important goal early in the second half. We knew they would push hard at us and at the end they scored and we were a bit nervous."

Fabregas also added that the spirit inside the Arsenal camp is key to the club's success this season, which has seen them move up to second in the Premier League table after their win over Everton.

"We want to do well until the end, this is just one more step until the end," he said.

"It's good we're in second position, we're improving, We just need Chelsea to drop some points now."

It’s Common Sense For Robin Van Persie To Stay Away From International Duty : Wenger

Arsene Wenger's concern at Dutch striker Robin van Persie’s call up to the Holland squad has led him to insist that the focus should be on getting the front-man back to action at Arsenal.

Gunners boss Wenger revealed on Thursday his surprise at Dutch boss Bert van Marwijk’s decision to request the services of the Arsenal striker.

The 27-year-old is only just returning to training after being sidelined since the end of August due to an ankle injury, and Wenger thinks a common sense approach would dictate the Dutchman staying in London

"At the moment, Robin van Persie is coming back from injury, we are concerned to use him at our club and you can understand we are bit less concerned that he automatically plays in a friendly,” Wenger said according to The Sun.

The Frenchman also had to endure a large part of last season without the Dutch striker after he damaged an ankle ligament during international duty, and the Arsenal boss believes the best option would be for Van Persie to refrain from jumping head first into action.

"Every one of you has common sense and can completely agree with that. It does not look to me surreal that we wish him to play for us,” he added.

The 61-year-old also conceded that he had no choice in the matter and the subject of international commitments was out of his control.

"Holland is not my problem at the moment, my problem is to play the game against Newcastle on Sunday. All the rest is down to the rules that are in place in the international game.

"What can I do about that? Not a lot.

"I am not a big influence on that and I believe the most important thing is that we prepare well for our game on Sunday, try to win the game and let everybody else talk."

Wenger hopeful on Nasri and Clichy deals

Arsène Wenger is “hopeful” that Arsenal can agree new deals for Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy.

The French duo are key members of the first-team squad at Emirates Stadium: Clichy is the Club’s longest-serving outfield player while Nasri has been a revelation in his third season in north London.

Both players have entered the final two years of their current contracts but Wenger is confident they will agree extensions.

"We are working on it at the moment,” said the manager.

“I'm hopeful [of agreeing deals], yes, because the players want to stay."

Theo hoping to establish himself as a striker in 'next couple of years'

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is targeting a role as a striker in the future after recently making his return from an ankle injury.

The pacey forward scored an outstanding individual breakaway goal in the 2-1 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday night and he aims to stay on the on the goal trail and help make sure Arsenal's promising season continues.

The England star damaged his ankle while on international duty in September but has already had an impact since his return, scoring twice in the League Cup win against Newcastle United.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has tipped Walcott to eventually finish up in a central role like former Gunners favourite Thierry Henry.

And Walcott said: "I will play anywhere for the Arsenal, but it is nice to know the manager has got different hopes for me playing up front because for me personally I am a striker.

"It is nice to get within the goals because I have tended to miss out at times - I am trying to catch up a bit of time.

"But hopefully in the next couple of years you will see me be up front and I am looking forward to that.

"I have been practising in training and that seems to be paying off, so hopefully I can continue doing that."

Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger Believes His Side Were 'Punished' For Losing Concentration In Loss To Shakhtar Donetsk

Wenger.. frustated
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that his side were "punished" for their poor concentration as they were beaten in the Champions League 2-1 by Shakhtar Donetsk.

Theo Walcott had given the Gunners the lead, but an own goal from Craig Eastmond and a strike from former frontman Eduardo saw them miss the chance to qualify from the group stages, and Wenger admitted that his side lost concentration after they took the lead.

“We had a good start and after we became too easy, and then we were punished, against a good team you are punished,” Wenger told Sky Sports.

“It’s a good lesson for us tonight because we thought we’d get through without putting 100 per cent focus on every defensive situation and then in the second half we gave a lot to come back into the game but we were a bit unlucky in the finishing and they were intelligent as well and that explains after that it was difficult to come back.

“We had the chances but we couldn’t take them. Overall, I believe we have learned that even if you give a lot, if you are not focussed for 90 minutes  you don’t win at that level.

“We were 1-0 up and comfortable and slowly we dropped our urgency and we were punished because they have good players, and you see that especially on the crosses, nobody attacks the ball and they created chances from that.”

Wenger was questioned about whether Gael Clichy was to blame for Shakhtar’s second goal, but the Frenchman didn’t give much away.

“I don’t know if it was a lack of focus but he was first on the ball, it’s difficult to explain. I haven’t talked to him about it yet.”

The Gunners boss also said that he thought his side were unlucky in the run up to Shakhtar’s first goal, but still criticised his team for failing to deal with the free-kick.

“Yes, but that’s a decision for the referee. We still have to deal better with the free-kick.”

Theo Walcott’s first half goal was one of the few positives for the Gunners, but Wenger seemed unimpressed by the move, instead insisting that none of his players played well tonight.

“Well I don’t want to speak about any individual performance because nobody was individually outstanding tonight.”

Even when he was pushed about the quality of the goal, the Frenchman remained downbeat.

“It was a good goal, but we play to win the games, you know.”

Wenger also emphasised that the loss represented a missed chance to qualify for the next stage and criticised his side’s lack of maturity for surrendering their first half lead.

“It is a missed opportunity of course. Especially if we get away with a draw we are there nearly. So the most difficult thing in a game is to score the first goal, what we did, and then I believe it’s a lack of maturity not to focus 100% to make sure. We are caught just before half-time and then you give a lot, but it’s just the story of the game. It’s just, it’s football.”

When questioned as to whether previous poor results in the Ukraine had led to his side going into the clash with a mental disadvantage, the Frenchman dismissed the idea, instead insisting that it was a lack of concentration that saw them come up short.

“No you don’t play with memory, you play with the performance of the day and we had 20 minutes today where we were not completely sharp and we were punished.”

Theo walcott is faster than me: Bale

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale believes Arsenalwide man Theo Walcott is faster than him.

The Welshman has had the spotlight shine on him after two mesmerising performances against current European champions Inter, as he scored a hat-trick at the San Siro and followed it up with two important assists at White Hart Lane.

And in both games the 21-year-old used his pace and skill to make a mockery of Brazilian full-back Maicon.

However, Bale has his feet firmly on the ground — as he insists that his former Southampton team-mate Walcott would have the beating of him in a race.

"I've never worked with a sprint coach, I just put my foot down and run as hard as I can," Bale told The Sun.

"I've never worked with a skills coach either, I've always liked dribbling with a ball and now I'm showing it in games.

"Maybe I owe some thanks to my PE teacher at school, who at one time banned me from using my left foot in practice games. He'd only let me use my right - and that definitely helped improve it.

"As for how quickly I can cover ground, as I have grown older I have become more powerful and that is all I can honestly put the speed down to. Of course I work hard on the training ground, but I don't do anything special.

"Back when I was a schoolkid I'd do distance running and the sprints as well. I could run 100 metres in a little over 11 seconds but I have never been timed by anyone at Tottenham.

"Is there anyone faster than me in football? Well, Theo Walcott at Arsenal for one. I used to room with him when we were both teenagers at Southampton and he is definitely quicker than me.

"We're good mates and I keep in contact with Theo regularly. But yes, he'd beat me in a race."

Now Bale hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow Welshman and Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs.

"He's shown, ever since he made his debut, what a good player and what a good person he is for football," he said, according to the Press Association.

"He's an amazing person to follow and hopefully I can come a little bit near him."

And with comparisons with Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lionel Messi cropping up, he added: "It's obviously nice to get people talking about you, saying nice things.

"But I know I have to keep working hard and keep improving and that's all I want to do."

NO Fabregas!

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that skipper Cesc Fabregas is sidelined for the trip to playShakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

The Gunners travel to play the Ukrainian side on Wednesday night, but the manager is unwilling to risk the 23-year-old in the fixture.

The Spaniard had to be taken off during the recent game against West Ham United after feeling his hamstring, but the Frenchman insists that it is not a strain.

"He has a good chance to play on Sunday but Wednesday night is too risky," Wenger said in a press conference.

"He has no real strain, just a bit of pain. I don't know what it's down to but we cannot take a gamble as he has had injuries before. There's still a bit of reluctance to push it 100 per cent."

In the meantime, the manager also revealed that he has fitness concerns regarding Andrey Arshavin, Denilson and Alex Song.

Arsenal To Tie Down Samir Nasri With A Five-Year Deal - Report

Arsenal are reportedly set to hand midfielder Samir Nasria long-term deal, following the Frenchman's rich vein of form.

The 23-year-old has been one of the best players for the north London club this season, and has already scored six goals in all competitions.

And with his current deal set to expire in 2012, The Mirror reports that the Gunners are set to hand the former Olympique Marseille man a new five-year contract.

Arsene Wenger has in the past admitted that he is not fond of letting the contracts of his key players run down, making them a potential transfer target for other clubs.

Nasri joined Arsenal in 2008, for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million.

Arsene Wenger Believes Manchester City Victory Was A Pivotal Moment In Arsenal's Season

We could not have afforded defeat, insists boss

Arsene Wenger believes Sunday's crushing victory overManchester City could be a key point in Arsenal's season.

The Gunners went into the match five points behind league leaders Chelsea and needed victory at Eastlands to stay in touch with their London rivals.

And Wenger's side succeeded, securing a 3-0 victory courtesy of goals from Samir Nasri, Alex Song and Nicklas Bendtner after City had Dedryck Boyata sent off in the fourth minute.

And now the Emirates chief believes his side have received a mental boost from a victory that keeps the Gunners within striking distance of the top of the table.

"It was certainly a pivotal moment of our season because we could not afford a defeat," Wenger told the club's official website.

"To keep in touch with the top teams and to go out and have a victory was mentally very important for the team. Overall I believe it is a consequence of intelligent attitude and good team and collective spirit - that’s why we got the result.

"Even though it was under special circumstances I still believe it was difficult to beat Manchester City, even though they played with ten men. Because we as well played many times with ten men and we still have not lost the game."

Arsenal were boosted during the match with Theo Walcott and Bendtner receiving game time after returning from injury, and Wenger believes this shows his squad is packed with quality.

"I always spent a lot of time to convince everybody [about that]," he said. "Now I think people realise when everybody is fit.

"Remember we still have Thomas Vermaelen, Robin van Persie and Aaron Ramsey out and all these players will come back. I am convinced we have a very strong squad."

Arsenal Captain Cesc Fabregas Fed Up Of Premier League Title Questions

Spaniard switches focus to League Cup

Cesc Fabregas
is bored of answering questions aboutArsenal's Premier League title-winning credentials, whether they win or lose.

Fabregas, 23, played the star role as the Gunners brushed aside 10-man Manchester City on Sunday to come back into contention. Since Arsene Wenger's side last lifted the trophy in 2004, their ability to win it back has been hotly debated, much to the Spain World Cup 2010 winner's chagrin.

"It looks like after every win you have to say 'Oh, you are more mature than last year', but it is just one more game, let's not get carried away," Fabregas told the club's official website.

"Now we have the [League Cup] game against Newcastle, which is the most important one at the moment.

"The time to talk about if we have matured or are better than before will be at the end of the season.

"In football, you know what people will say when you win, and you know what people will say when you lose.

"You just have to keep focused on what you do, in training and in the game, give everything for the team and the rest is not up to you.

"We have a very good team, with lots of young players. We have to make it a great time by winning things."

Arsenal, Manchester United And Tottenham Are Targeting Connor Wickham - But Would English Football's Latest Prodigy Be Better Off Staying At Lpswich Town?

Coveted teenager urged not to join a big club too soon

Being English football’s next big thing is a burden that some carry more lightly than others.

Michael Owen took to the limelight like the manor born, Wayne Rooney was always an assassin-faced baby rather than the other way round while Jack Wilshere looks like he has spent his entire life perfecting one-twos with Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
Others anointed for greatness, like Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale, are afflicted by growing pains and endured fitful progress through their late teens and into their early 20s.
Then there are those who make an early headline or two without ever living up to their precocious billing, such as Chris Bart-Williams and Justin Fashanu.
How Connor Wickham, the boy with the physique of an Army commando who good judges say is nailed on to lead England’s attack for many years, develops will depend upon the choices he makes and opportunities he gets.
All the big clubs are tracking his development. Scouts from Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham all descend en masse on Ipswich Town’s first-team and reserve-team matches whenever word gets around that Wickham is playing.
Those hoping to monitor the 17-year-old on Tuesday night were disappointed. Tottenham reserve team manager Clive Allen and Arsenal scout Dave Malden were among those in the audience at Portman Road for Ipswich Town’s 3-1 League Cup triumph over Northampton Town but a minor ankle injury sustained in training on Sunday and which Roy Keane had cryptically kept hidden from the media made him a notable absentee.
Scouts from Queens Park Rangers, Charlton Athletic and Reading were also in attendance but asked if they were spying on Wickham, one laughed: “We couldn’t afford him.” There was even a pre-match rumour that Harry Redknapp would pop in for a visit but the wily old campaigner had probably been given the nod.
Low Key | Roy Keane is attempting to dampen the flames of Wickham-mania at Ipswich
On a day when the newly merged Ballon d’Or delivered the news that no English footballer is among the best 23 players on the planet, any crumb of comfort that the future might be better than the present was not to be found on a filthy evening in Suffolk, not on Tuesday night anyway.
By common consent, Ipswich, one of English football’s great talent factories, are nurturing and protecting a diamond that needs only the gentlest of polishing.
Yet Keane has insisted that he has no intention of selling off the family silver, however gold plated. Ipswich’s very own footballing royalty has claimed he would be “lynched by supporters” if he even contemplated cashing in on Wickham.
Is Wickham better off learning his trade away from the Premier League spotlight under the guidance of a manager who knows a thing or two about being a teenage prodigy?
“There could be a better place but at this moment in time he’s at the right place,” observed his team-mate, the Trinidad and Tobago international Carlos Edwards. “Patience is a virtue and it comes with time. Being around myself and the other lads who have been playing a few years, he is learning his trade slowly but surely.
“We are trying to help him in any way possible, the manager is trying to help him by putting him into the squad and at the same time not putting too much pressure on him.”
Wickham has been on the media radar since becoming Ipswich’s youngest-ever debutant at the age of 16 years and 11 days and the spotlight became dazzling when he scored three goals in four league games in April and then led England Under-17s to European Championship glory in the summer with goals in the semi-final and final.
“You won’t hear Keane telling anyone that Connor is a superstar,” one Ipswich employee told me on Tuesday night of a manager keen to dampen the flames of Wickham-mania. He has tended to use the striker as an impact substitute to frighten defences with his 6ft 3in, 14 stone frame that makes him not only a physical freak mature beyond his years but, allied with serious pace, a rare collectors’ item.
“When I first came to the club, I didn’t even know the lad was 16,” explained Edwards, who joined Ipswich last year. “I sat next to him and I thought he was 21. When the guys said he was, like, 16, 17, I was, ‘no way’. They always say looks are deceiving and you should not assume.”
Assuming that teenage prodigies will develop into bona fide stars is also a dangerous game. After missing Ipswich’s opening six games of the season with an injury sustained in the summer, Wickham has yet to open his scoring account nearly three months into the campaign, although eight of his 10 appearances this term have been as a substitute.
In total, the teenager has started only 12 matches for the club – augmented by 29 substitute appearances – which probably explains the relatively low return of six goals.
The word is that Arsenal and Manchester United have leaped above Tottenham in the chase for the striker. Nevertheless, it is attitude, desire and self-belief – as much as physical talent - that will ultimately determine whether Wickham can become a regular at one of the Premier League big guns who are carefully monitoring his development.
"Connor is handling the rumours in a very professional way"
- Carlos Edwards
“There’s always a lot of pressure but he can handle it,” said Edwards. “His Dad is on his side, which helps a lot, and is guiding him in the right way and I hope his Dad doesn’t get influenced by all the speculation and rumours. There are always going to be rumours. He’s going about it in a very professional way and I think that by having the gaffer on his side, someone like Roy Keane, he knows what to expect.
“To say he is going to be playing for England is a bit overwhelming at the time. You can’t run before you can walk and that is Connor’s attitude. He is not getting carried away by ‘him saying’ or ‘them saying’ that. The lad comes into training with a big smile on his face and doesn’t look any different to the guy who is playing Under-17s or Under-19s.

Vito Mannone Dreams Of Milan Move

Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone hints a lack of football is pushing him towards Serie A.

Vito Mannone has cut to the significance a lack of football has had on him, and the upshot could lead to anArsenal exit.

And he has launched a cry for help towards Milan, hoping they open a Serie A door.

Mannone, 22, is a starter for the Italy under-21 side, but his club career in the Premier League has run aground.

"I love London, but I play little. I dream of Milan," he toldLa Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I love the Premier League, but I am always watching Serie A on television.

"I never lose sight of Milan, they have been my dream since I was a child."

Reports suggest Mannone is prepared to move on loan to an Italian club so that he can increase his chances of playing.

More worries for Wenger.

Last week's match against Chelsea was mentioned as a match between boys and men. Arsenal need to boost up their squad if they need  to win the title. Gunners lack their confidence when they play against big teams like Chelsea and Manchester united. I don't know the reason why they didn't buy a quality playerlike Mesut Oezil in the last transfer window.  And at last he was transfered to Real Madrid for just 15 million pounds.

And Injuries also play a great role in the woes of Arsenal..

Cesc Fabregas to Become Highest ever paid Gunner ( Arsene Wenger may increase his salary To 110,000 pounds a week)

Arsenal handed Cesc Fabregas an unprecedented £3 million ‘golden handcuffs’ payment and upped his wages by nearly 50 per cent to £110,000-a-week to keep him at the club,

The incredible package, which is believed to have been formalised last summer after lengthy negotiations, was agreed to compensate the Spaniard for his relatively ‘below-par’ salary.

It made Fabregas the highest-paid player in Arsenal’s history and has given the club hope that he will once again ignore advances from the Continent this summer and stay at Emirates Stadium.

In 2006, Fabregas signed an eight-year contract, which was worth an initial £60,000-per-week with annual increments built in.

But the player and his agent Darren Dein began talks in 2008 to renegotiate the terms of the deal with the club to reflect his growing status as one of the finest young players in the world.

The board were so desperate to hang on to the player they signed from Barcelona at 16 that they finally sanctioned an unprecedented deal to not only increase his salary from £80,000-per-week to £110,000-a-week but also back-date his pay for two years to compensate him for being underpaid over that period compared to other elite Premier League players.

The result was the player received a one-off sum, equivalent to a signing-on-fee, of around £3m, which was effectively £1.5m, or £30,000-a-week, for each of those two years.

“Arsenal were so desperate to keep him,” said a boardroom source. “He has become the club’s talisman and the figurehead for the new generation. His status is similar to what Thierry Henry’s once was.

“Fabregas and his advisers know they have the club over both barrels.”

Big earners | Fabregas deal surpassed Henry's
Henry was also represented by Dein when he struck a similarly hard bargain as he contemplated whether to move to Barcelona in 2006. The switch was finally completed 14 months later.

The former Arsenal striker was paid the equivalent of £200,000-a-week during his final season in north London, when Dein was in charge of contract negotiations.

Henry received a £5m signing-on fee when he put pen to paper on the four-year deal, which was topped up by a £5m salary.

Although there was anger among some of the directors that the signing-on fee had not been spread out over the entirety of the contract, it appears that the board have been forced into a similarly tight corner with Fabregas.

Nevertheless, Arsenal are confident that the secret deal will help ward off predators, principally Barcelona, this summer.

It has taken the player near to the top of Europe’s high-pay league and has made him comfortably the highest earner at the club, above manager Arsene WengerWilliam Gallasand Andrey Arshavin.

“Arsenal have been loyal to Fabregas and believe he will be loyal to them,” added the insider. “They know he can earn equally good money, if not better, elsewhere but there are two things in Arsenal’s favour.

“Fabregas is in awe of Arsene Wenger because he feels he owes his career to him and he is also a pragmatic man. He knows that he is young and Barcelona can wait.”

Although Arsenal’s transfer spending has been constrained by the construction of Emirates Stadium, that has not stopped them sanctioning big wage hikes for many of their players.

Seventeen players have been given improved contracts this season and the wage bill is believed to have increased to £115m, the third highest in the Premier League.

Arsenal looking to Sign Everton's Jack Rodwell

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has targeted Evertonmidfielder Jack Rodwell following the news that his transfer funds will be boosted this summer as the Gunners are poised to pay off the £133 million loan used to redevelop Highbury.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the Toffees' starlet, who can play in midfield or at centre-back, is a priority for the Gunners boss, who could lose William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre and Sol Campbell from his squad in the close season.

Only £2m of the loan used to redevelop Highbury into apartments is left to pay, meaning that Wenger's budget should continue to be boosted beyond this summer.

The club's overall debt is now below £175m and is almost exclusively what amounts to a mortgage on the Emirates Stadium.

The Arsenal Supporters' Trust estimate that the property now owned by the Gunners should generate a cash surplus of £45m over the next two years.

Arsenal To Bid £10Million For Manchester City Goalkeeper Joe Hart

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will make a £10million bid for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart as the Frenchman has seen enough shaky performances fromManuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski.

A fifth consecutive year without a trophy could put pressure on the Gunners boss to make a switch as his two goalkeepers have made some bad errors this season, according to the Daily Star.
Hart has played well on loan at Birmingham City, compiling 12 shut-outs in the Premier Leaguethis season and putting himself in contention for a spot on England’s World Cup squad.
City have one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers in Shay Given and could cash in on the 23-year-old if Arsenal intends to upgrade at goalkeeper

Arsenal And Arsene Wenger Need To Tell Fans The Truth About Failure To Spend Big Money - Frank McLintock

Gunners legend rues failure to land title that was 'there for the taking'

Arsenal legend Frank McLintock has called on the club to “be honest” with supporters about Arsene Wenger’s failure to spend big in the transfer market.

The captain of the 1971 Double winners believes the Premier League title was “there for the taking” for Arsenal this season if they had beefed up their squad during the last two transfer windows.

Gunners season-ticket holder McLintock says there is confusion among fans about the transfer budget that Wenger has at his disposal.

In an astonishing exclusive interview with Goal.com UK,the former defender also claimed:

•    Wenger has put too much trust in his young Gunners and should have brought in more proven talent in the last two years

•    Arsenal need three new players in the spine of their team to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League next season

•    Only Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie among the current squad would get in the 2003-04 ‘Invincibles’ team or Wenger’s 1998 and 2002 Double winners

•    Three or four of Arsenal’s side are not good enough and would get “nowhere near” Manchester United's or Chelsea’s teams

•    Wenger is the best manager Arsenal have ever had and the club must sign him up for “another five or six years”

Youth champion | Or is he forced to rely on kids?

McLintock says supporters are entitled to more information from the club about the exact state of the finances, which are reported to be healthier than Wenger’s cautious transfer activity would suggest.
“It would be nice to get a bit of honesty from the board and the manager,” he said. “We are intelligent people. Give us a break.

“I share a box with some other people at Emirates Stadium and pay a lot of money to get into Arsenal for every home game. I’m still a big Arsenal fan and am bitterly disappointed when they get beaten.

“People are getting frustrated. It’s hard to judge whether he doesn’t want to spend the money because he rates the young players so highly or there is no money to spend.”

Wenger was criticised in January for not strengthening his squad for the second half of the season, particularly because of Van Persie’s long-term ankle injury.

McLintock observed: “I’m positive that last year he was really strapped for money. I heard that from a good source at the club. But in January he had money.

“He is so convincing when he talks about his young players but I don’t know if he really feels that and genuinely doesn’t want any money or he is covering up and putting on a front for the club.

“I’m not into all this ‘youth’ all the time and saying next year will be better. If they are not ready, why not buy them next year?

“I’ve been consistently saying in the last two years that they need strengthening down the spine of the team.

“They could have been improved with spending around £30 million. He could have got Shay Given and Richard Dunne for £12m and a centre-forward for £15m. For a club like Arsenal, that is not an astronomical amount of money.”

Given up | Arsenal could have bought Irish keeper
McLintock was at pains to point out that he is a big supporter of the Arsenal manager.

“Wenger is the greatest manager we’ve ever had and it is right to trust him. The board should sign him up for another five or six years if they can but we haven’t won anything for five seasons,” he said.

“Sometimes you feel as if you are almost criticising the Pope when you make comments about the club.

“The disappointing thing is that the championship was there for the taking for Arsenal this season.

“They only needed to have bought two or three players for the last two years but they have not got them for whatever reason.”

McLintock believes the current squad is a pale shadow of Wenger’s great Arsenal teams.

“How many of the current squad would walk in to the ‘Invincibles’ or the 1998 or 2002 Double-winning teams?

“Van Persie and Fabregas would be the only certainties although there would be three others knocking on the door – [Thomas] Vermaelen, [Andrey] Arshavin and [William] Gallas.

Calibre | McLintock wants more signings like Arshavin
“There are three or four players who are not good enough for a top side and would get nowhere near Man United or Chelsea’s teams.

“When you get players injured and look at the bench, there are only youngsters to come in. When you look at United and Chelsea, they have players like Scholes and Joe Cole.

“Wenger just needs more signings in the mould of Arshavin and Vermaelen, who can improve the team immediately.”
